Friendship Bench DC serves as an innovative resource for mental health support in the area. This initiative offers a safe space for individuals to share their thoughts and feelings.
David Robinson and Guy Molock have engaged in weekly conversations for approximately two months. Molock chose to participate because he wished he had someone to confide in during his younger years. He aimed to provide that opportunity for others.
Robinson often wanted someone to discuss his thoughts with but lacked the chance. He recognized that traditional mental health therapy carried certain stigmas, especially among Black men. Concerns about judgment or shame kept him from opening up to people he knew.
