A past Arizona Democratic congressional candidate, Brianna Westbrook, was arrested following an alleged forced entry into a former partner’s residence. Westbrook allegedly entered with a knife and tape, a gesture she labeled a “misunderstanding” related to a BDSM scene, which the supposed victim refutes.
Phoenix police received a call on July 10 at 6 p.m. from a woman stating that she opened her door, expecting her son, but found Westbrook instead. Westbrook, holding a knife and black tape, allegedly pushed the victim onto a couch and instructed her “not to move,” which prompted the victim to scream, as per police reports.
Westbrook, a known transgender rights activist and former vice chair of the Arizona Democratic Party, has been in the public eye previously.
The altercation drew the attention of the victim’s sister. Westbrook allegedly threatened both women with the knife. Pleas from the victim to cease, citing her son’s imminent arrival, apparently led Westbrook to flee the scene.
Authorities approached Westbrook’s home, where she claimed the incident was a “big misunderstanding” pertaining to consensual BDSM activities. Westbrook admitted to visiting with a knife and tape but insisted the event was prearranged through subtle Instagram messages.
“Westbrook was notified via Instagram that the victim was ready for the scenario,” police documents report. Westbrook confirmed visiting the residence equipped with a fake knife and tape, demanding the victim sit on a couch, interrupted only by the sister’s entrance. She then departed the location.
The victim countered Westbrook’s claims of consent and participation in “re-enacting” a BDSM scenario.
Westbrook faces charges including felony third-degree burglary, aggravated assault with a simulated deadly weapon, and misdemeanor disorderly conduct. Police records indicate a noted history of domestic violence incidents involving Westbrook.
