Dominique Malonga Makes History with First WNBA All-Star Game Dunk

The anticipation surrounding Dominique Malonga’s first dunk in the WNBA was not about if, but when. The Seattle Storm center found her perfect moment during the All-Star Game on Saturday night. During the second quarter, Malonga, standing at 6-foot-6, received a pass from Atlanta Dream star Angel Reese and achieved the landmark dunk.

Malonga’s dunk marked her as the seventh player in WNBA history to achieve such a feat in an All-Star Game. According to the WNBA, at 20 years old, Malonga is the youngest player to make a dunk in this annual event.

This accomplishment makes her the first since WNBA legend Sylvia Fowles in 2022 to dunk in an All-Star Game. Malonga continues to wait for her first regular-season dunk with the Storm, having played 63 games. However, her ability to dunk is well-known, as she has already done so in European leagues and other competitions.

Following her debut as the second overall pick in last year’s draft, Malonga impressed everyone with her dunking skills during her first practice with Seattle.

Before the All-Star Game began, teammate and Storm guard Flau’jae Johnson jokingly mentioned she would not speak to Malonga if she didn’t manage a dunk during the game. Malonga currently averages 16.3 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in her second WNBA season.
