Dogs Use Human-Like Strategy to Process Speech

In a recent study, researchers examined how dogs process speech, revealing interesting insights into their capabilities. Conducted in Hungary, the study was published in the journal Science. It highlights that dogs may share certain language processing strategies with humans.

Researchers observed that dogs listen for consonants in speech to identify word boundaries, a strategy used by human infants. This discovery suggests that dogs might have adapted to some aspects of human language, allowing them to form a basic understanding of spoken words.

In the study, Pocak, a 6-year-old Labrador, participated in tests designed to explore these speech processing abilities. The findings indicate that, while human language capabilities are highly developed, dogs possess a certain level of complexity in interpreting human speech.
