Democrats Campaign in Virginia Highlighting Iran War

20 minutes ago 0

In Henrico County, Virginia, Democrats gathered Monday for a campaign rally. The event featured former representatives Elaine Luria and Tom Perriello, former transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg, Rep. Jennifer McClellan, and Henrico County prosecutor Shannon Taylor.

These Democrats campaigned together, highlighting the conflict in Iran as a key issue affecting more than just gas prices. The war has unsettled oil markets, affecting Republicans during midterm elections.

Virginia is one of the most military-dependent states, and the implications extend beyond economic concerns. Luria emphasized this by stating, “This war is sending our sailors overseas under an administration that’s lying about the number of casualties.”

Luria is challenging Rep. Jen Kiggans in Virginia’s 2nd District, an area linked to significant Navy installations. Shannon Taylor, aiming to unseat Rep. Rob Wittman in the 1st District, criticized her opponent’s stance on the war. Tom Perriello seeks to reclaim the 5th District seat, partly to “end this war.”

Pete Buttigieg, a military veteran and potential 2028 Democratic presidential candidate, reinforced the message. He encouraged the crowd of over 200 attendees to consider Democrats’ control of the House as a priority.

“The road to that majority runs right through here, and it depends on you,” Buttigieg told the rally, with participants enthusiastically waving signs.
