Democratic Tensions Rise in Michigan Senate Race

60 minutes ago 0

Democratic anxiety increases in the Michigan Senate race as a Fox News poll reveals Republican Mike Rogers leading Abdul El-Sayed. Michigan Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens has defended the party’s platform, seeking to address demographic underperformance.

Rep. Haley Stevens urged Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed to cut ties with controversial streamer Hasan Piker, suggesting El-Sayed should focus more on Michigan voters. Despite her primary-season criticism, Stevens continues to back El-Sayed, highlighting her commitment to the party.

El-Sayed, the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate, participated in a unity rally in Detroit. Stevens suggested that distancing from Piker aligns with the Democratic plans for healthcare and other issues, contrasting them with Republican Mike Rogers’ positions.

Asked about El-Sayed’s support among groups like Jewish and Black voters, Stevens pointed to her strong performance with these demographics, affirming her identity as a Zionist Democrat.

El-Sayed previously engaged with streamer Hasan Piker at an event for content creators backing his campaign. Rep. Stevens emphasized her close primary race and continued commitment to Democratic values, asserting the party’s inclusivity.

The Senate race, critical for Democrats, will determine control over a dozen key elections. Retiring Sen. Gary Peters’ support for Stevens underscores the significance of this contest.

According to a Fox News poll, El-Sayed trails Rogers by four points, struggling with key voter segments compared to Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. Rogers and El-Sayed will face each other on November 3 in this vital swing state’s Senate election.
