Reunion of ‘Good Day L.A.’ Hosts: A Journey from TV to Podcasting

Over two decades ago, Steve Edwards, Dorothy Lucey, and Jillian Barberie became a beloved team on KTTV Fox 11’s “Good Day L.A.” Their show soared high in popularity, competing fiercely with other morning shows like “The KTLA Morning News.” Their playful exchanges and candid moments captivated viewers, bringing a fresh style to the familiar morning format of news, weather, and sports.

The trio consisted of veteran newsman Edwards, the constantly lively Lucey, and fiery weather reporter Barberie, known for her bold remarks. While their chemistry was a key to success, underlying tensions occasionally surfaced. Edwards often played the peacemaker between Lucey and Barberie, whose mutual disdain sometimes became apparent. Fast forward more than a decade, the trio reunited with a new project: a podcast titled “So Unanchored.” This weekly show allows them to share spontaneous stories and reflections from their years together, now with a renewed sense of friendship. Although the format differs from their former TV days, the vibrant dynamic remains unchanged.

Barberie’s time after “Good Day L.A.” proved challenging. Alongside her job loss, she faced personal struggles, including divorce and health concerns. Despite these difficulties, her relationships with Edwards and Lucey provided crucial support. Now, the podcast setting allows them to reconnect in a new way, symbolized by the no-frills environment where they record.

Reflecting on their past and present collaboration, Edwards noted that their chemistry wasn’t immediate. It developed over time and eventually resonated with audiences who shared their journey. Despite movements to revamp the show in 2017, the essence of what made their show a standout remained clear to those like Scott Sternberg, now involved in their podcast.

As the three look forward to their ongoing partnership, they embrace the term “home” to describe their reunion. Their journey from TV to podcasting highlights a story of resilience, friendship, and the joy of coming full circle.
