Darline Graham Continues Late Brother’s Legacy in Senate Campaign

Senator Darline Graham, R-S.C., is focusing her Senate campaign on addressing economic challenges like inflation and rising grocery prices. As South Carolina approaches its special Senate election, Graham also honors her late brother, Lindsey Graham, by highlighting his legacy. Joint Base Charleston has been renamed in his memory, celebrating his three decades of military service.

While Graham isn’t aiming to replicate her brother’s career, she seeks to uphold his legacy while establishing her unique path. On ‘Fox & Friends,’ she acknowledged Lindsey as an exceptional senator dedicated to foreign relations and national security. However, her focus is more domestic, concentrating on the state’s economic issues.

“I want to focus on the struggles of South Carolina families because, like them, I feel those same struggles,” Graham stated. Campaign trail feedback revealed voter concerns about the affordability of essential items like gas, groceries, and healthcare. Graham noted her personal experience with these financial pressures, citing her family’s health problems and her frugal shopping habits.

“I struggle, too… when I go shopping, I’m a bargain shopper,” she explained. “If the steak’s not on sale, I don’t buy it that week. I look for the buy one, get one free sale, so I think, like most South Carolinians, I live the struggles here, too, and we have to get the economy booming and cut government spending in order to get the prices down.”

Graham is among ten Republicans competing in the election, which follows a whirlwind period in which she entered politics after Lindsey’s sudden death in July. Balancing grief, a new Senate role, and an election bid has been challenging.

“Over the past three weeks, I’ve buried my precious brother. I’ve learned the new role in the United States Senate. I’m on this brutal campaign trail with a brutal schedule,” she shared.
