Dallas Cowboys Seek Key Player to Strengthen Defense

1 day ago 0

The Dallas Cowboys, with a current record of 3-4, are trailing the New York Giants, who lead the NFC East at 4-2-1. After a recent 38-21 victory against the injured Philadelphia Eagles, the Cowboys have emerged as the division’s second-best team. However, concerns remain about the team’s ability to compete for a championship.

Key players like quarterback Dak Prescott, running back Javonte Williams, and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb have contributed significantly to the team’s offensive success. Still, Dallas’s defense lacks the decisive impact that could prove vital in the playoffs. Many speculate that the Cowboys’ owner, Jerry Jones, is actively exploring the trade market for a game-changing player.

Russell Wilson, a former NFL quarterback and now a CBS Sports analyst, has shared his perspective on potential strategies for the Cowboys. He suggests that they should consider acquiring a standout defensive player, such as Maxx Crosby, to enhance their chances. Wilson comments, “If you’re Jerry, definitely consider making some trades. Finding an edge pass-rusher could make a difference for the team.” Wilson emphasizes that Jerry Jones is not hesitant to invest financially in key players.

Reports indicate Dallas had significant interest in acquiring Maxx Crosby during the offseason. However, the Baltimore Ravens intervened, offering two first-round picks to the Raiders for the accomplished pass-rusher. This trade was canceled reportedly due to Crosby not passing his physical, with speculation of the Ravens having second thoughts.

The Raiders, now at 3-4, are behind both the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos in their division. Some analysts predict that the Raiders might start trading players to build up their draft capital ahead of the 2027 draft. If the Cowboys identify themselves as only one pass-rusher short of being a Super Bowl contender, exchanging first- and second-round picks could be a strategic decision. Yet, having already traded their 2027 first-round pick for Quinnen Williams last year, Dallas may struggle to offer the necessary assets to acquire Crosby.
