Amy Acton, former Ohio health director and current Democratic candidate for Ohio governor, experienced an incident with a Republican political activist last Saturday during her campaign event in Harrison, Ohio. The activist, carrying a camera, approached Acton with questions about her refusal to debate her Republican opponent, Vivek Ramaswamy.
The cameraman’s approach led Acton’s staff to intervene, blocking access to her. A recording showed Acton walking away as her staff instructed the activist against taking photos or videos. The interaction has intensified criticisms from Ramaswamy’s camp. They argue Acton lacks a satisfactory reason for not engaging in a debate as both candidates advance in their campaigns.
Recently, Ramaswamy committed to a debate invitation extended by CNN, but Acton’s campaign informed local media of her disinterest in participating. A spokesperson explained her focus remains on engaging with Ohio residents, rejecting exposure with someone they described as propagating falsehoods through AI while discrediting Acton for past experiences and siding with harmful individuals.
Ramaswamy’s response avoided addressing Acton’s remarks, instead questioning her suitability for office if she avoids debates and public engagements. He highlighted past issues related to her tenure as health director and mentioned multiple surfaced police reports.
Amy Acton’s campaign event continued following the confrontation, with no comment provided to Fox News Digital afterward. She will contest against Ramaswamy in the general election on November 3.
Acton, who previously secured Ohio’s Democratic primary win, faces significant scrutiny over her actions and campaign strategies. Voters keenly await more interactions that offer insights into her political capabilities and responses to critics.
