The Chicago Bears have made a significant move, acquiring All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons from the Tennessee Titans. Along with Simmons, the Bears will receive a 2028 fifth-round pick. This trade cost the Bears their 2027 and 2028 first-round picks, as well as a 2027 fourth-round pick.
The deal marks a rare trade for multiple first-round picks for a defensive tackle since 1967, according to ESPN. Simmons was drafted by the Titans as the No. 19 overall pick in 2019 and has since established himself as one of the league’s top defensive tackles.
“There are few people like Jeff Simmons. We are forever grateful for all he has given this team and this city,” said Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk. “His formidable presence on the field was surpassed only by what he did off it.”
Simmons has been a four-time Pro Bowler with 414 career tackles and 46.5 sacks in 106 games. Apart from his on-field achievements, Simmons has contributed to community efforts through the Give ’Em A Reason Foundation, impacting lives in Middle Tennessee and Mississippi.
Currently, the Bears have a 5-2 record and sit second in the NFC North. Their defense has faced challenges, primarily generating pressure through their linebackers and defensive backs. By adding Simmons, they aim to bolster their defensive line, which ranks near the bottom in pressure rates.
Jeffery Simmons’ addition comes with a three-year, $105.8 million contract extension, keeping him with the Bears through the 2030 season. Star defensive end Montez Sweat is returning from a suspension, further strengthening the Bears’ defense. They trail the undefeated Minnesota Vikings (6-0) and aim to top the standings for a home playoff game.
The Titans, struggling with a 1-6 record, parted with Simmons despite their aspirations to be AFC contenders. Quarterback Cam Ward, the top pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, has had a tough start under new coach Robert Saleh. This trade suggests a shift in strategy for the Titans as they grapple with a rebuilding phase.
