Chase Briscoe’s Triumph at Chicagoland Speedway

Briscoe’s All-American Victory

Chase Briscoe realized his own All-American dream during his win at Chicagoland Speedway. A native of Mitchell, Indiana, Briscoe made NASCAR’s return to Joliet a Midwest triumph. After celebrating his win by mimicking a fishing motion in honor of his Bass Pro Shops sponsor, Briscoe expressed his elation. “I felt like that was the most American I’ll ever feel in my life,” he said. “Winning in the red, white and blue Bass Pro Shops paint scheme on Fourth of July weekend on the 250th year of America…what a cool weekend.”

Race Analysis

Briscoe fended off a challenge from his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, Christopher Bell, securing his first Cup Series victory of the season. He won the Eero 400 in front of a sold-out crowd. Denny Hamlin, the points leader, secured third place, increasing his lead. William Byron, who led the most laps, finishing each of the first two stages in the lead, ended up in fourth place, just ahead of 2019 Chicagoland Speedway champion Alex Bowman.

Bubba Wallace, Ryan Blaney, Ty Gibbs, Corey Heim, and Riley Herbst rounded out the top ten. Tyler Reddick, positioned just one point behind Hamlin in the standings, experienced a challenging night, finishing 36th after being forced to change his car’s radiator.

Briscoe’s Strategy

Briscoe emerged from the pits with the lead 42 laps before the finish and maintained it despite pressure from Bell. “I’d be lying if I didn’t say that when I saw him coming I was like, ‘Of course, I’m going to get beat at the end on tires,'” Briscoe admitted. “But I was already driving as hard as I could. I just knew I had to be perfect.” This victory also marked Briscoe’s first win on a 1.5-mile track in the Cup Series.

“It’s really cool to win at one of them. I feel like they’re a staple of what the Cup Series is,” he said. Winning at Chicagoland was special for Briscoe, a track located close to home that he holds dear.

Midwest Roots

A local legend, Mike Alstott, formerly of Joliet Catholic, commenced the race by driving the pace car. “It’s great to be back home and to be here representing NASCAR and Joliet,” Alstott stated. “I understand the NASCAR community and their loyalty.” Joe Gibbs, a Hall of Fame NFL coach, witnessed his car take the victory lane. “For Chase and our team, it’s just great and it means so much to us,” Gibbs said.

Christopher Bell, another Gibbs driver, narrowly missed out on victory. “It was a great day,” Bell remarked. “Toyotas are fast. It seems like a monkey can drive them.” Briscoe celebrated not just his victory but the birthday of his crew chief, James Small. “This was it,” Briscoe said, referring to the win as a gift for Small.
