Nearly three months have passed since the major trade, yet Myles Garrett has not been seen in a Los Angeles Rams uniform. He missed both preseason games and has now been absent from 12 practices due to knee swelling and soreness. Initially, during early camp, this wasn’t a worry. However, with Week 1 approaching, concerns have grown.
Head coach Sean McVay minimized the seriousness of Garrett’s absence on Tuesday. He explained that the decision to sit Garrett is a precautionary measure. McVay stated, “The goal is, what can we do to be able to get him ready to roll for Australia?”
The Rams’ regular season begins against the 49ers in Melbourne, Australia, on Thursday, Sept. 10. This marks the first-ever NFL game in Australia and features two potential Super Bowl contenders early in Week 1. McVay emphasizes the importance of Garrett being fresh for this game and the regular season rather than preseason appearances.
With MVP Matthew Stafford, top receivers Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, and All-Pro running back Kyren Williams, LA was already a favorite for 2026 before adding Garrett. Now, they have the two-time Defensive Player of the Year, a legendary pass rusher, joining an already formidable front seven with Kobie Turner, Byron Young, and Braden Fiske.
Assuming Garrett’s injury remains minor, the Rams appear to be a formidable challenge for any opponent this season. This assumes they won’t also recall franchise legend Aaron Donald.
