Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche announced Friday the arrest of a man for making death threats against a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer and his family. The threats took place during a protest in New Jersey on Thursday night.
Blanche emphasized that the arrest was a swift response, following a commitment to find and apprehend the protester, who was recorded on video. “That’s a federal crime,” Blanche stated on Fox News’ “The Will Cain Show.” He highlighted the severity of threatening not only the officer but also his family.
“I will kill your whole f—ing family. Your whole f—ing family is dead. Your children and wife all dead. I have your face mother—er! All dead!”
The video captured the protester’s remarks aimed at the ICE officer. The altercation happened outside Delaney Hall in Newark, N.J., alongside ongoing protests against federal immigration policies.
On Friday evening, Blanche shared on social media: “Told you. @FBI just arrested the man who threatened to kill ICE officers and their families.” The suspect’s identity remains undisclosed.
The protests continued into their sixth night by Thursday, prompting clashes between federal immigration officers and demonstrators. Protesters allegedly engaged in physical confrontations, as tensions rose outside the Delaney Hall detention center.
Nine individuals were arrested on Thursday, as per the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The DHS reported that approximately 100 protesters had congregated, chanting “F— ICE” and carrying gear such as black umbrellas and gas masks, attempting to shield against law enforcement measures.
During the unrest, agents deployed pepper spray to manage the crowd. Reports indicated that data gathered by DHS indicated local and state police did not assist the federal officers, due to restrictions possibly connected to Governor Sherrill’s decisions.
Protests began on May 22, triggered by detainees’ grievances about inadequate medical care, food supply, and a lack of due process, claims that the DHS has refuted.
