Antonacci’s Hustle Helps White Sox Secure Win Against Twins

In a baseball game against the Minnesota Twins, Chicago White Sox left fielder Sam Antonacci demonstrated impressive base running skills, turning a grounder into a double. During the sixth inning, with the White Sox holding a one-run lead and runners in scoring position, Antonacci faced the Twins’ infield, which was drawn in. His grounder passed up the middle and deflected off the glove of Twins’ second baseman Kody Clemens, landing in center field.

Antonacci’s timely decision-making contributed to the double, which allowed two runs to score. “I just feel like I have a good knack for knowing when I can take that extra base,” Antonacci commented. His manager, Will Venable, praised his fundamental base running. “It starts out of the box,” Venable mentioned. “He has created a really good habit. The White Sox held first place in the American League Central with a record of 75-68, maintaining a 2 1/2 game lead over the Cleveland Guardians, who triumphed over the Detroit Tigers. Meanwhile, the Twins fell further back in the standings.

The White Sox relied heavily on their bullpen, utilizing four relievers after opener Bryan Hudson. Together, the pitchers amassed 15 strikeouts with minimal walks. Lefty Hagen Smith retired nine batters in three innings, showcasing effectiveness with three strikeouts. “It was really special. Covering an extra inning for us was huge,” Venable noted regarding Smith’s performance.

Smith impressed with a 0.56 ERA over 10 appearances. “I felt good. Just kind of getting through at-bats quick and allowing me to go deeper,” Smith mentioned.

In addition to Smith’s strikeouts, Hudson and three other pitchers contributed to the team’s total. “Tonight was all about the bullpen,” Antonacci remarked. “To be able to help them out and ultimately come out on top tonight is September baseball.”

During the fifth inning, Antonacci doubled and scored on Munetaka Murakami’s single. Later, his two-run double expanded the lead. The team added runs throughout the seventh and eighth innings, cementing their win.
