Search for Missing American Woman in Bahamas Raises Questions

4 weeks ago 0

A friend of Brian Hooker has raised concerns about the disappearance of Hooker’s wife, Lynette, during a boat trip in the Bahamas. The friend, Daniel Danforth, revealed that Hooker had a $33,000 high-tech thermal camera on his boat, which wasn’t used to search for Lynette.

According to authorities, Brian Hooker reported that Lynette fell off their dinghy due to rough waters on the night of April 4. He paddled to Marsh Harbour, arriving around 4 a.m. on April 5. The couple had been returning to their sailboat, Soulmate, which serves as their retirement home. They often sail around the U.S. and Caribbean, as seen on their social media pages.

Danforth, a friend of the couple, mentioned that the boat had a forward-looking infrared (FLIR) system, capable of detecting heat signatures. “It is not only night vision but can pick up heat signatures,” Danforth explained.

“One of the neat features that they had on their boat that most boats don’t have is called a FLIR system,” said Danforth.

Danforth said he met the Hookers in 2023 and recalled a conversation with Brian Hooker about the camera’s safety features. He recounted a specific instance where the camera detected Lynette walking on a dock by her heat signature.

On April 6, Brian Hooker informed Danforth via text that Lynette “swam towards the sailboat” after she went overboard. Danforth subsequently notified the Coast Guard about the thermal camera. By early May, the Coast Guard Investigative Service (CGIS) seized the boat for further investigation.

The Coast Guard has now initiated a criminal investigation into Lynette Hooker’s disappearance. Danforth reported that the investigators, unaware of the camera, expressed interest in its data, which could potentially be retrieved.

“I told them about it and they were very interested,” Danforth said.

Brian Hooker’s Bahamian attorney disclosed that Hooker left the Bahamas to care for his ill mother in the U.S. He spent five days in police custody but has not been charged with any crime. His Michigan-based lawyer urged the public to give Hooker the benefit of the doubt.

Information about Lynette Hooker, a 56-year-old American woman, whose disappearance remains unsolved, has drawn attention to the situation. The Coast Guard and Hooker’s attorney have not commented further.
