Nvidia, the chip maker, announced another significant profit surge, reinforcing the strong demand for artificial intelligence technology. The company’s recent quarterly profit skyrocketed by 211 percent compared to a year ago, reaching $58.3 billion. This result surpassed the expectations of financial analysts.
Three years ago, Nvidia’s quarterly profit stood at $2 billion, demonstrating a dramatic increase over time. This success is attributed to Nvidia’s critical role in supplying chips essential for large AI projects, a market where tech companies are heavily investing billions.
Nvidia has now become the most valuable publicly traded company globally. The financial health of Nvidia serves as an indicator of the tech industry’s trends. The company faces challenges meeting the high demand from its technology sector clients, signifying the ongoing AI boom. According to Nvidia, annual spending on AI infrastructure is expected to rise to $3 trillion to $4 trillion by 2030, significantly up from the current $1 trillion.
This quarter marked the second consecutive period where Nvidia’s profit doubled. The company’s profits exceeded those of other large technology firms like Apple. Revenue for the quarter reached $81.6 billion, an 85 percent increase from the previous year, once again surpassing expectations.
Nvidia offered positive projections looking forward, estimating that sales for the next quarter would almost double from last year, reaching $91 billion. This forecast is above Wall Street’s prediction of $86 billion. Despite this optimistic outlook, Nvidia’s share price dropped by 1 percent in after-hours trading, losing most of its earlier gains.
