A video capturing congressional candidate Katie Barr from North Carolina has stirred attention online, as she openly declares herself a ‘progressive’ despite being in the race as a Republican. This declaration came during her appearance on a podcast named ‘The Hometown Holler,’ where she was questioned about potentially misleading voters.
Barr clarified her positioning by stating, On my campaign website, right at the top, I make it clear that I’m not a traditional Republican. I tell people at their doors, ‘I am running in the Republican primary, but I am not a Republican; I am a progressive.’
She further emphasized her honesty, saying, I can’t claim to be a Democrat anymore.
Her candid approach is not intended to deceive voters, she insists, but to be transparent about her intentions if she were to win. Barr filed her candidacy on November 6 to take on current Rep. Tim Moore, R-N.C., in North Carolina’s 14th Congressional District.
On her campaign website, Barr outlines her strategy for running as a Republican, stating that it is the only way to eliminate what she describes as ‘corrupt cowards’ from office. Accusing Republicans of manipulating electoral maps for guaranteed victories, Barr asserts, The general election has already been decided. So – the primary is the only competition for this job.
Barr further expressed to Fox News Digital, I’ve been upfront about who I am and my plans from the start. Tim Moore is detrimental to the people of District 14. He’s profiting off his position while constituents face hardships. Moreover, he manipulated this district to keep his seat regardless. This is unjust. I’m running to offer voters a genuine choice.
Despite facing online criticism and accusations of electoral manipulations, including being labeled as deceitful, not all conservative commentators see Barr’s move as deceitful. A notable voice in this discussion, Second Amendment advocate Cam Edwards, addressed the controversy on X (formerly Twitter), asserting, There’s no big secret here. It’s her entire campaign ethos, openly displayed on her campaign site.
