The Oregon Ducks’ 2026 football season faces challenges, with Coach Dan Lanning announcing that quarterback Dante Moore will not return this season. Moore suffered a concussion on September 28 during a game against USC, following a tackle by Desman Stephens.
Moore had rejoined practice sessions but hasn’t been cleared for game action. “We got clarity over the past week,” said Lanning. “Dante wants to play, but health decisions are beyond him and me. He participates in practice, but game environments differ.” Lanning remains optimistic about Moore’s full recovery.
Until his injury, Moore excelled, passing for 925 yards and nine touchdowns without interceptions. Lanning clarified Moore’s absence isn’t due to the team’s three losses. Moore continues as the scout team quarterback, demonstrating commitment and determination.
The Ducks’ recent performance further highlights their struggles. The team, with seven turnovers, lost 17-15 to UCLA and scored only ten points in a 21-10 loss to Illinois. These setbacks led to the firing of offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer.
Moore now focuses on recovery, aiming for the NFL Draft next April, where projections favor him as a first-round pick. This transition marks a shift from a promising to a disappointing season for Oregon, as they currently stand 4-3, with slim postseason chances.
Oregon now looks to rebuild its roster with new talent, like Dylan Raiola from Nebraska, for future success. Facing Northwestern soon, the Ducks navigate a challenging period, reevaluating strategies for 2027.
