With midterm elections approaching, House Speaker Mike Johnson cautioned against underestimating the enthusiasm of GOP voters. He suggested the Democratic Party’s shift towards left-wing policies will drive Americans to favor Republicans, despite polls indicating a Democratic advantage.
Speaking on ‘The Ingraham Angle,’ Johnson stated that the Democrats’ potential control of Congress could bring radical changes, marking a shift from previous administrations. He perceived this shift as a motivation for Republican support.
This is not our father’s Democrat Party,
Johnson remarked, addressing the association of some Democratic candidates with the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). He criticized their ideas, such as abolishing borders, prisons, and defunding police, labeling them as dangerous.
Johnson described the upcoming 2026 midterms as a contrast election between common sense and crazy. He urged voting Republican to secure policies beneficial for families and the nation.

While polls show Democrats leading this cycle, Johnson claimed these surveys fail to capture Republican enthusiasm, attributing this to GOP voters’ distrust towards polling.
Johnson plans to tour 21 states soon, aiming to boost Republican efforts supported by what he described as inaccurate polling. He believes in strong Republican turnout ahead of Nov. 3.
Despite a Reuters Ipsos poll favoring Democrats 47% to 36%, Johnson remains confident in his party’s potential for success, asserting that a Democratic Congress would impact political stability.
