Democrats Rally in Virginia
A group of Virginia Democrats gathered for a rally in Henrico County on Monday. The event featured campaign efforts by former representatives Elaine Luria, Tom Perriello, former transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg, and others. The focus was on the ongoing war in Iran, emphasizing its significance beyond gas price impacts.
The unpopular conflict has disrupted oil markets, affecting Republican standings in the midterms. Virginia, a state deeply connected to the military, experiences consequences that extend beyond economic concerns. “This war is sending our sailors overseas under an administration that’s lying about the number of casualties,” said Elaine Luria at the rally.
Campaign Challenges
Luria aims to unseat Rep. Jen Kiggans in Virginia’s 2nd District. Henrico prosecutor Shannon Taylor, challenging Rep. Rob Wittman in the 1st District, criticized her opponent’s support for the war. Tom Perriello targets Rep. John McGuire in the 5th District, seeking to regain a seat lost in 2010, partly to end the war.
Pete Buttigieg’s Involvement
Pete Buttigieg, a veteran and potential 2028 presidential candidate, attended to bolster Democratic enthusiasm. He encouraged attendees to aim for taking control of the House, needing a net gain of four seats for a majority. Addressing the crowd, Buttigieg emphasized the importance of Virginia in achieving this goal.
The rally drew over 200 attendees, showcasing support for the three candidates.
