In a thrilling “Monday Night Football” game, Matthew Stafford of the Los Angeles Rams made NFL history against the Buffalo Bills. Stafford, the current NFL MVP, became the only quarterback to achieve 150 touchdown passes with two different teams. He accomplished this remarkable feat after previously playing for the Detroit Lions from 2009 to 2020.
Stafford’s performance against the Bills was exceptional, completing 40 out of 54 passes for 383 yards and securing three touchdowns. Two of those touchdowns came in the fourth quarter, leading to players Puka Nacua and Davante Adams scoring, following an earlier touchdown to Adams in the second quarter.
Despite Stafford setting a milestone, the game concluded with a tough overtime defeat for the Rams. The match at SoFi Stadium, widely anticipated as a potential Super Bowl preview, saw the Rams trailing 13-7 at halftime. They fought back by scoring 27 points in the second half, including a rushing touchdown by Kyren Williams that leveled the score, pushing the game into overtime.
Following a fumble by the Bills’ James Cook, Stafford positioned the Rams for a potential game-winning field goal. However, Buffalo blocked the attempt, allowing Josh Allen to lead his team downfield, resulting in Tyler Bass’s decisive 45-yard field goal, sealing a 37-34 victory for the Bills.
The Rams now stand at 2-3 this season, a discouraging start for a team expected to be a leading contender for the next Super Bowl. Injury struggles have contributed to their challenges, including Myles Garrett, the Defensive Player of the Year acquired from the Cleveland Browns, who is currently on Injured Reserve due to knee surgery.
Garrett’s potential return is described as “week to week,” according to Rams head coach Sean McVay, who emphasized the importance of Garrett achieving full performance recovery.
Stafford’s latest achievement places him among the elite quarterbacks, ranking sixth in all-time touchdown passes. To surpass Brett Favre for the fifth position, he would need more than 70 additional touchdowns.
