49ers Face Another Injury Setback as Deebo Samuel Sidelined

3 minutes ago 0

The San Francisco 49ers have suffered another setback as they lose another wide receiver to injury. Head coach Kyle Shanahan announced on Monday that Deebo Samuel will be out for at least two weeks due to a hamstring strain. Samuel sustained the injury during Sunday’s tight 32-29 victory against the Seattle Seahawks.

This latest injury is part of a troubling pattern for the 49ers, as several wide receivers have been sidelined early in the season. The team already has Christian Kirk, Demarcus Robinson, and De’Zhaun Stribling on the injured list. In addition, Ricky Pearsall will miss the rest of the season following PCL reconstruction surgery.

Samuel, who had played seven seasons with the 49ers before joining the Washington Commanders in 2025, returned to the team this offseason with a one-year contract. This All-Pro from 2021 has made significant contributions, amassing 206 receiving yards, 79 rushing yards, and three touchdowns over five games. He has also excelled on special teams, returning 11 kickoffs for 281 yards.

The incident leading to Samuel’s injury occurred during Sunday’s game in the third quarter. Seahawks linebacker Drake Thomas delivered a hit, causing Samuel to remain on the ground before being assisted off the field.

Despite injuries, the 49ers managed to end Week 5 with four healthy wide receivers. Mike Evans played a pivotal role in securing the NFC West win, securing 113 yards and a touchdown. However, with their current roster situation, General Manager John Lynch may have to seek additional support. Among the remaining wide receivers, Jordan Watkins stands with only two catches this season.

Samuel’s absence also means he will miss the opportunity to face his former team when the 49ers meet the Commanders in “Monday Night Football” next week. There’s a possibility he may also miss the game against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 7 before the team’s bye.
