1 hour ago 0

Since his trade from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Oklahoma City Thunder, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has become a towering figure in NBA history. At the age of 28, he stands out with his accomplishments, which include four All-Star selections, four first-team All-Pro honors, and two league MVP titles. He also brought Oklahoma City its first NBA championship in 2025, earning the Finals MVP in the process.

The recent season saw the Thunder facing the San Antonio Spurs in a hard-fought Western Conference Finals. They were a single win away from facing the New York Knicks in the Finals, a series that could have crowned them champions again. In an interview with Sean Gregory from Time, Gilgeous-Alexander emphasized his place at the top of the NBA.

“I think I’m the best player in the NBA,” he stated. “I believe my nightly performance reflects best-player-in-the-NBA production and efficiency. I play to win, and over recent years, I’ve certainly accomplished that.”

Gilgeous-Alexander still has many years ahead in his career yet has already etched his name in the NBA record books. He broke Wilt Chamberlain’s record for consecutive games scoring 20 or more points, a record previously standing since 1963. He achieved this streak over 127 games, showcasing an average of 32.5 points on 53.5% shooting, including five games with over 50 points, and a personal best of 55 points. During this period, the Thunder held a 103-24 record.

Last season, Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 31.1 points, alongside career-highs in assists (6.6), rebounds (4.3), and steals (1.4) per game. His shooting percentages were remarkable, with 55.3% from the field, 38.6% from three-point range, and 87.9% from the free-throw line. His scoring versatility is unparalleled, drawing fouls consistently and excelling with one of the best pull-up jumpers in the league.

With no signs of decline, the Thunder remains a formidable contender. Gilgeous-Alexander continues to rise, offering hope alongside teammates Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams.
