The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced on Friday that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged a detainer for Jefferson Adonay Velasquez-Torres, an 18-year-old El Salvadoran national. ICE requested Texas authorities not to release him without notifying the agency. Velasquez-Torres, who is in the U.S. illegally, faces charges for two separate fatal shootings.
Velasquez-Torres was charged this week with the murder of Noah Ramirez, 27, who was killed on April 27 outside a nightclub in Houston. According to FOX 26 Houston, two other individuals were injured in the incident.
In June, Velasquez-Torres faced charges for another murder related to a shooting at a Houston house party last August, which resulted in the death of Angel Garcia, 17. Enrique Aguilar, a 19-year-old accomplice, was also apprehended in connection to Garcia’s death.
Additionally, Velasquez-Torres has been charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon and aggravated robbery. He entered the U.S. illegally as a minor in 2014 during former President Obama’s tenure and was permitted to stay in the country.
“This criminal illegal alien has been charged with two counts of murder after two fatal shootings in Houston,” Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis stated. She emphasized that Velasquez-Torres remains in custody, thanks to Texas’s cooperation with federal authorities.
Velasquez-Torres is being held in the Harris County Jail after being denied bond for the charges connected to the second shooting. He is awaiting further legal proceedings.
