2 hours ago 0

Co-founders of Bryn Walker, Bryan Walker and Michelle Min, have tragically died from gunshot wounds outside their Oakland Hills home. Their deaths have shocked family members and the neighborhood community, prompting a police investigation. Authorities are yet to determine who fired the gun, and Newsweek has reached out to the Oakland Police Department for comment.

Start and Growth of Bryn Walker

In 1992, Bryan and Michelle launched Bryn Walker as a small retail shop in Berkeley. Over the years, it transformed into a nationally distributed women’s clothing brand. Bryn Walker now runs six company-owned stores and partners with around 1,000 boutiques across the United States.

Incident Details

On October 2, Oakland police discovered Walker and Michelle Min in the Panoramic Hill area after reports of gunshots. Officers attempted life-saving measures before paramedics arrived, but both sadly died at the scene. A firearm was found, and police are investigating the possibility of a murder-suicide. A neighbor first noticed them after hearing gunfire. The police believe no ongoing threat exists in the community.

Belief in Murder-Suicide

Michelle Min’s brother, Paul Min, suspects a murder-suicide conducted by Walker. He shared his struggle to reconcile this belief with the man he knew for almost 40 years, describing Walker as honest and hardworking. Paul Min revealed that Walker faced severe financial losses recently, affecting his mental health.

Concerns Over Mental Health

Paul Min expressed growing concerns about Walker’s mental state and discussed potential psychiatric care with Michelle. He found a note listing treatment centers and suspected Walker might have sensed these plans. Michelle Min appeared hopeful about improving financial conditions, with aspirations to leave the Bay Area.

Background and Business Journey

Bryan Walker and Michelle Min met in the Midwest during the 1980s, later moving to California. Michelle Min studied fine arts at Washington University, while Walker pursued philosophy at Iowa State University. Their small store in Berkeley grew as Michelle began designing clothes. They expanded to more stores and manufacturing.

Family Memories

Paul Min recalled his sister’s support after their family migrated from Korea to the U.S. in 1977. Michelle took on caregiving roles due to their parents’ work commitments. She also supported him during severe health challenges. The couple cared for their elderly parents through major health issues.

There was a miniature Australian shepherd, Pip, at their home during their deaths, now with a friend.

Community Vigil

Berkeley residents attended a vigil, expressing their unity and feelings of distress. Janice Thomas voiced the community’s unsettling experience, even among those unfamiliar with the couple.

The Oakland Police Department continues active investigation without concluded results. Anyone with relevant information or media materials related to the incident is urged to contact investigators.
