Tom Kim’s Stellar Performance at the Asian Games

Tom Kim, accustomed to the high stakes of professional golf, faced unparalleled pressure during the recent Asian Games in Japan. The 24-year-old PGA Tour winner had a lot riding on his performance. Winning gold could mean a military exemption, allowing him to bypass South Korea’s mandatory service.

Under South Korean law, most men must serve 18 to 21 months in the military. Exceptions exist for those achieving significant success in international sports competitions. Kim’s gold medal in the Asian Games offered such an exemption.

Kim entered the Asian Games in excellent form. He had led the International team at the Presidents Cup, providing the momentum needed to secure a one-shot lead heading into the final round. Despite these pressures, he excelled on the course, finishing with a final-round 64 to win by three shots. A supportive message from Tiger Woods, “Just be you. Nothing more, nothing less,” may have contributed to his success.

Austin Smotherman’s Milestone Achievement

The Bank of Utah Championship marked a significant event for Austin Smotherman. This tournament was his 100th career start on the PGA Tour, culminating in his first victory. After years in professional golf since turning pro in 2016, Smotherman celebrated his win enthusiastically.

Smotherman’s path included over 30 starts on PGA Tour Latin America and more than 100 on the Korn Ferry Tour before reaching the highest level. His dedication paid off as he claimed victory with a two-shot win. Reflecting on the achievement, Smotherman expressed gratitude for his journey and the support he had received.

Brooks Koepka’s Recovery Journey

Brooks Koepka sought to regain his form after a challenging season on the PGA Tour. Although he was one of the top iron players in 2026, Koepka struggled to find consistency, leading him to miss the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Koepka took a hiatus before competing on the DP World Tour. Despite a slow start, the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship provided a turning point. Playing across renowned courses like Kingsbarns and the Old Course at St. Andrews, Koepka achieved a T-6 finish.

These tournament rounds in challenging conditions could be a pivotal moment. This performance might set the stage for a stronger season in 2027.
