Early Monday morning, Day Hall at Cornell University became the focus of student protests. Students painted messages on the building and broke its windows. The protests were aimed at the university’s response to reported rape allegations.
Messages such as “At Cornell rapists are protected protestors are expelled” appeared on the walls. Another message simply stated, “Smash the patriarchy.” These expressions showed students’ frustration with what they see as administrative inaction.
The protests drew attention to claims that the university has not adequately handled serious accusations. Many students feel their concerns are not being taken seriously and have resorted to public acts to voice their dissatisfaction.
