Philanthropist David Rubenstein has purchased the modern sculpture titled “Blue,” which was removed from the grounds of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The acquisition, made for over $2 million, is set to enrich the Sculpture Garden of the National Gallery of Art.
Rubenstein, who formerly chaired the Kennedy Center before being removed by President Donald Trump in 2025, aims to eventually display the artwork at the National Gallery of Art. He currently serves as the chairman of the board of trustees at the gallery.
The transaction involving the sculpture was initially revealed by the New York Times and took place shortly after workers prepared to relocate the last piece of “Blue” on September 2.
