Middle East Tensions Rise as Iran and Israel Clash in Lebanon

2 weeks ago 0

Recent tensions in the Middle East highlight a power struggle between Iran and Israel. Lebanon, a battleground for these two nations, has suffered from their ongoing conflict.

On a recent Sunday, Hezbollah, supported by Iran, initiated an attack against Israel. This action led to Israeli retaliation in the southern suburbs of Beirut, an area strongly allied with Hezbollah. In response, Iran carried out its threat to strike northern Israel, escalating the situation further.

Experts suggest that the leaders of Israel and Iran see Beirut as a pivotal point in their struggle. Lina Khatib, of the Chatham House research institute, notes that Lebanon is caught in the middle of Iranian and Israeli interests, with neither side willing to back down.

In the backdrop of these events, former President Trump sought to conclude the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran. However, Iran’s leadership demands that any resolution must include Lebanon. On the other hand, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu opposed this approach, preferring to maintain ongoing operations against Hezbollah.

Netanyahu criticized Iran and Hezbollah for attempting to establish “a new equation” by responding to Israeli attacks in Beirut. He deemed this situation “unbearable and unacceptable.”
