President Donald Trump has made a significant financial contribution to Texas Senate candidate Ken Paxton’s campaign. The president has allocated $10 million from his MAGA Inc. super PAC to assist Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is facing a close race against Democrat James Talarico.
According to a Federal Election Commission filing, the funds are split equally: $5 million for ads promoting Paxton and $5 million for ads criticizing Talarico. Del Ray Media Inc., a political media operation, will handle both television and digital advertising.
MAGA Inc., President Trump’s committee, currently holds $400 million and has been relatively inactive in donations this cycle. Despite this, a nonprofit tied to MAGA Inc. called Securing American Greatness has released an ad focused more on promoting President Trump than local congressional candidates, causing concern among Republicans.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton remains popular among Republicans, with a 61% approval rating in August as per The Texas Politics Project survey. He survived an impeachment trial in 2023 over allegations including bribery, though it was revealed he had an affair, leading to his wife’s, a state senator, divorce filing.
In the tight race, Talarico is maintaining competitive polling against Paxton, despite criticism from President Trump. Trump labeled him with the nickname ‘Tala-freako’, which Talarico leveraged for campaign merchandise.
The only other significant financial support MAGA Inc. provided this election cycle was $827,000 to South Carolina’s Sen. Darline Graham, who seeks a full term after filling the seat previously held by her late brother, Lindsey Graham.
