Chase Elliott: Balancing Speed and Serenity

Chase Elliott spends much of his year striving to be the fastest. Yet when he has a chance to relax, he immerses himself in outdoor activities like fly fishing, golfing, hiking in Colorado, or snowboarding. For Elliott, these escapes are not merely hobbies but essential retreats.

According to the NASCAR Cup Series champion, the demanding schedule is challenging. Beyond the 38 races, the extensive time spent traveling and racing from February to November impacts drivers. Elliott emphasizes that finding time to disconnect is crucial for keeping a balanced mindset, especially during tough times.

Elliott finds solace outdoors. He became an enthusiast of fly fishing through relatives who loved the sport. Elliott sees fly fishing as a challenging pursuit, similar to golf, which also captivates him despite his admitted ongoing struggle to excel.

“It’s just the craft of being good at it, and the never-ending journey to master something unattainable,” Elliott explained. He feels that golf, like fly fishing, offers boundless opportunities to improve yet never master completely.

A shift to Colorado during his childhood due to his father’s career pause provided Elliott with abundant outdoor activities. Those years enriched his appreciation for nature. He recalls that outdoor adventures were plentiful and boredom was a personal choice, not a lack of options.

When NASCAR’s schedule allows, Elliott returns to Colorado. Snowboarding remains a favorite activity, particularly when a hike is needed to access the best slopes. The aim of these pursuits is to maintain a connection to something outside the professional racing calendar.

Elliott maintains a strong commitment to his racing team, ensuring he meets expectations. However, he recognizes that a complete focus on racing isn’t always beneficial.

“For all of us, it’s important to break away when you can,” Elliott stated. He believes occasional time away positively impacts the environment for everyone involved.

The message resonates widely; everyone needs a chance to slow down occasionally.
