Azzi Fudd’s Season Ends Due to Knee Surgery

ARLINGTON, Texas — Dallas Wings guard Azzi Fudd will undergo season-ending knee surgery. This marks a significant turn for the No. 1 overall pick. A sore knee has kept Fudd out for five games, and her team announced plans for arthroscopic surgery on her right knee next week.

The surgery will take place in Connecticut. Fudd had a standout career at UConn prior to being selected as Dallas’s second consecutive No. 1 overall pick. Paige Bueckers earned the same honor a year before Fudd.

Initially, Fudd started her rookie season coming off the bench for Dallas. She quickly gained a full-time starting role after scoring 24 points in her sixth game. In June, Fudd had a stellar performance, notching a season-high 26 points against Seattle.

Throughout the season, Fudd averaged 13.1 points across 30 games. Prior to a match against Golden State on August 7, she participated in warmups but did not play as a precaution. Her knee soreness continued.

“Out of an abundance of caution,” the team decided to rest Fudd.

Azzi Fudd and Paige Bueckers won the 2025 national championship at UConn. Afterward, Bueckers was drafted by the Wings. Dallas has experienced ups and downs, holding a 3-8 record following their longest winning streak since moving to Texas a decade ago.

Despite Fudd’s setback, the Dallas Wings remain optimistic about their playoff chances, striving for their first postseason appearance since 2023. They face Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever at the Dallas Mavericks’ venue Thursday night.
