The Washington Commanders encountered a major setback during their practice session on Saturday. Laremy Tunsil, a seasoned offensive tackle recognized for his five Pro Bowl appearances and having started 14 games in 2025, sustained a torn triceps during individual pass-rush drills. The injury, as reported by NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo, will necessitate surgical intervention.
Tunsil’s injury is grave, potentially sidelining him for a substantial part of the regular season, or possibly the entire season.
Initially, Garafolo conveyed that there was no overwhelming panic within the Commanders’ organization. However, this assessment seems misleading given that subsequent tests revealed the severity of Tunsil’s injury within hours of his departure from practice.
As the Commanders strategize to maintain protection for quarterback Jayden Daniels, who was notably absent due to knee, hamstring, and elbow injuries last season, adjustments are underway. Andrew Wylie is anticipated to step in as the left tackle. Josh Conerly will serve at right tackle, working with right guard Sam Cosmi, center Nick Allegretti, and left guard Chris Paul to form the offensive line.
In March, Tunsil secured a two-year contract extension valued at $60.2 million, underscoring his vital role in the team.
