The Honolulu Police Department has charged Batarti Gabbard with custodial interference in the second degree. Authorities allege he attempted to lure children into a hotel room. The arrest follows an incident on July 12 in Waikīkī, where a man reportedly offered gum and money to a group of kids, attempting to persuade them to his hotel room.
According to the police, the suspect, identified as Batarti Gabbard, engaged with the children at a hotel pool area. He allegedly asked for their names, recording them in a notebook. Fortunately, the children declined his invitation, and he left the scene.

His parents mentioned to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser that Bhakti’s recent erratic actions might stem from substance use. They reported he renounced his identity, gave away personal belongings, and exhibited delusional behavior, including adopting the name Jim Morrison Jr.
A family member transported him to Queen’s Hospital for a psychological check-up. Bhakti disclosed possible cocaine, ice, and pot use, leading to a 72-hour hospital hold for further evaluation.
Legal Challenges and Charges
Kimberley Gabbard, Batarti’s wife, sought a protective order against him last week due to concerns over his mental state and behavior. Her request was denied. She cited a history of bipolar disorder with psychotic symptoms and substance use.
Batarti Gabbard also faces theft charges. He pled not guilty, received a public defender, and awaits a hearing on August 14. His court date for custodial interference remains pending.
