Andrean’s outside hitter, Aleece Ehler, faced intense challenges during her freshman season. Coach Grant Bell described her experience as a ‘trial by fire’, indicating the pressures she dealt with. Bell mentioned that this exposure helped Ehler develop resilience and adaptability. ‘We want her to emerge from her shell and lead on the court this year,’ he emphasized.
In her debut season, Ehler achieved 298 digs, 196 kills, and 57 aces, receiving accolades such as All-Northwest Crossroads Conference and all-district honors. With the departure of four senior players, the responsibility on Ehler’s shoulders increased significantly. Despite the high expectations, Ehler’s self-imposed standards remain the highest. She insists that improvement should not compromise the joy of the game.
‘Every year brings a chance to enhance your abilities, like jumps or swings,’ she stated, ‘but my primary focus is on improving my mentality. Working hard, enjoying the game, and uplifting teammates is key to my growth.’
Ehler’s mindset is crucial as she navigates Andrean’s fast-paced volleyball program known for its success in the NCC and postseason. Her familiarity with volleyball began at a young age, inspired by her cousins, Molly Prisby and Trevor Prisby. Trevor, a former Andrean player, accomplished remarkable statistics over his three-year career. Ehler is on a promising path to exceed these achievements if she maintains her current progression.
Coach Bell expressed optimism about Ehler’s prospects for college sports. ‘Her journey over the next two years will be telling. Focus on speed, strength, and jumping capacity are essential for advancement,’ Bell explained.
On the court, Ehler is known for more than her athletic ability. ‘I trust her decision-making in offensive scenarios,’ praised Maya Mastalski, a junior middle hitter at Andrean. ‘She consistently makes intelligent choices.’
The upcoming season requires Ehler’s strategic acumen to help Andrean compete against teams like Hanover Central and Illiana Christian in the NCC. Her performance will significantly impact her pursuit of long-term goals in volleyball.
‘Whether it’s playing in college or further, or completing high school, I hope to end on a high note, proud of my efforts and still in love with the sport,’ Ehler expressed.
