A 17-year-old male has been formally charged with murder following the death of a young teenager who was found shot in Chicago’s South Side earlier this year. Chicago police announced the charge of first-degree murder on Friday night.
The incident involved 13-year-old DeAntwan McKeever, who was discovered with a gunshot wound to his head on May 21 in the South Chicago neighborhood. Despite being rushed to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition, McKeever succumbed to his injuries after a week.
Authorities arrested the accused teen on Thursday in the vicinity of East 79th Place in South Chicago. He is set to make his initial court appearance on Saturday.
