A 63-year-old man was fatally shot in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood on Monday evening. The incident began as an argument between the victim and a known individual. During the altercation, the suspect drew a firearm and shot the victim multiple times.
Authorities responded to a report of gunfire at approximately 8:30 p.m. The injured man was transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The suspect fled north along Clark Street, leading to a foot chase by police officers. The pursuit continued until Argyle Street, where the suspect pointed a weapon at the officers.
Chicago police then fired at the suspect, hitting him. Officers administered medical aid at the scene before the suspect was transferred to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, listed in critical condition. A firearm was found at the scene of the confrontation.
After the incident, three officers were taken to a local hospital for monitoring. The Chicago Police Investigative Response Team, along with the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, were informed. Officers involved will be on administrative duty for a minimum of 30 days.
