New Documentary Celebrates Gregg Allman’s Musical Legacy

A new documentary titled The Music of My Soul honoring the legendary musician Gregg Allman has premiered in New York City. Known for his substantial influence in the music world, the film features an assortment of Allman’s iconic tracks, complemented by a special song from country musician Jackson Dean, titled “My Cross to Bear.” This track, which plays at the film’s conclusion, pays tribute to Allman’s career, highlighting his association with the Allman Brothers Band and memorable songs like “Midnight Rider,” “Whipping Post,” and “I’m No Angel.”

Brian Levy from Subtext, the production company behind the film, emphasized the significance of Gregg Allman’s contributions to American culture. “Gregg Allman’s music is woven into the fabric of American culture, and this film captures both the artistry and the humanity behind the legend,” said Levy in a statement. The documentary aims to provide fans with exclusive insights and archival materials while introducing Allman’s legacy to new audiences.

“We’re proud to bring the film to American audiences, offering devoted fans rare insight and archival material while introducing Gregg’s legacy to a new generation.”

Subtext, an independent film production and distribution company, secured the North American rights to the documentary. Michael Lehman, a close friend of Allman, also expressed his admiration and dedication towards the project. He commented on the significance of sharing Gregg’s story with both long-time fans and future generations.

I am honored to have worked with Gregg and to have called him my dear friend. This film captures his true essence, and it’s profoundly meaningful to be able to share his remarkable story with the world. Gregg’s music has outlived him and will bring joy to many generations in the future.

Following its debut on June 9 in New York City, The Music of My Soul will have a hometown premiere in Macon, Georgia, on June 11. Additionally, the documentary will show in Los Angeles and New York for a week before starting a nationwide theater release on June 17.
