Mike D, a former member of the Beastie Boys, is set to release his first solo album titled “Thank You” on August 28. This marks the first complete album from a member of the group since the 2011 release of “Hot Sauce Committee Part 2.” Fans of the Beastie Boys have been waiting for this moment.
The album promises to deliver a unique experience featuring “sonically inventive post-electronic grooves and hypnotic hooks.” Mike D’s distinct voice will guide listeners through a sound journey that defies categorization, according to a press release shared with Newsweek.
In addition to the album announcement, a visualizer for the track “True Colors” is now available for streaming. This gives fans a glimpse into the creative direction of the project.
The recording of “Thank You” began with what has been described as “experimental recording sessions” in Mike D’s home studio. Interestingly, his sons Skyler and Davis were involved, later joined by additional contributors. The album also includes vibrant artwork by Can Can Press, Thad Higa, and Charles Deroyan.
Mike D expressed his excitement about the collaborative process, stating, “It’s been so much fun making this music with people I love and I have grown to appreciate in our collaboration.” He hopes the album brings joy to listeners in a world that often undervalues artistic expression and empathy.
This release is a testament to the enduring influence of the Beastie Boys, continued with the support and involvement of Mike D’s family.
