Washington — Sixteen-year-old lifeguard Ryder Williams, along with the 10-year-old boy he rescued, visited the Oval Office to meet President Trump. The event followed a dramatic rescue last month in Santa Cruz, California.

On July 25, Williams rescued Nathaniel Rai from a rip current. Despite the powerful surf, Williams managed to hold Nathaniel and bring him safely to shore. The rescue quickly gained attention online.

During the Oval Office meeting, President Trump commended Williams for his bravery and congratulated Nathaniel for his courage. “We’re honored to have you all here,” said Mr. Trump. “What you did was incredible. Everyone witnessed it, and it was truly remarkable.”

Nathaniel’s father, Sumit Rai, expressed his profound gratitude to Ryder for saving his son’s life. He mentioned his happiness in celebrating Nathaniel’s upcoming 11th birthday. Rai recalled that his son came close to disaster before Williams intervened.

President Trump acknowledged the important role lifeguards play, noting they often do not receive the recognition they deserve.

Reflecting on the experience, Williams mentioned that lifeguards rely heavily on their training during challenging situations. When asked about his future, the young lifeguard shared his aspiration to become a firefighter.
