On Thursday, players experienced similar outcomes. Maya Joint and Otto Virtanen faced the hardships after major victories earlier in the week. American Players at Wimbledon

On the July 4 weekend, Americans had much to cheer for at Wimbledon. Eight American women and seven men were still competing by Friday. Key matches included Coco Gauff facing Claire Liu and Amanda Anisimova playing Madison Keys. Anisimova enjoyed a tense win over Sofia Kenin, highlighting her skill against strong opponents.

The potential quarterfinal between Gauff and Jessica Pegula was highly anticipated. Pegula might face Iva Jovic if both win on Friday. Pegula, impressed by Jovic’s performance, highlighted Jovic’s competitive spirit as unique for a young player.

On the men’s side, the spotlight was on a potential match between Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe. Tiafoe defeated Fritz in June at Halle, Germany, but Wimbledon brings a different atmosphere.

Seed Performance

Last year, Wimbledon saw a record low number of seeds by the third round. Only 27 remained, setting a Grand Slam record. This year, seeds performed better with 21 women’s seeds and 16 men’s still in the competition. Big names like Jannik Sinner and Coco Gauff advanced, maintaining expected matchups.

Defending champion Iga Świątek defeated Karolína Plíšková 6-1, 6-3. Taylor Fritz won against Patrick Kypson, while Alex de Minaur bested Adrian Mannarino. Emma Navarro triumphed over Oksana Selekhmeteva. Alexander Zverev also advanced, defeating Valentin Royer in three sets.
