The University of Maryland has indefinitely suspended its club tennis team following the discovery of emails containing racist imagery. These emails, sent to other universities, included a symbol linked to the Ku Klux Klan and were related to an upcoming invitational tournament.
The suspension of the tennis team was enacted on Saturday after university officials became aware of the graphic content. The case has been referred to the university’s police department for further examination.
Additionally, the Office of Student Conduct at the University of Maryland is actively investigating the situation. While the email may have been the action of a small number of team members, the university is addressing the incident seriously.
