Friday in Morristown, President Donald Trump arrived at Morristown Municipal Airport in New Jersey after visiting Camp David. As per the reports from Jacquelyn Martin/AP, President Trump shared an update on social media regarding the U.S. stance on Iran.
On Saturday night, Trump announced that Iran, along with other Middle Eastern countries, requested the U.S. to postpone any military action against Iran due to an emerging agreement on key deal parameters. Earlier news had indicated potential plans by the U.S. and Israel to target Iran’s energy infrastructure over the weekend.
In his Truth social post, Trump mentioned that the U.S. military is ready to confront the Islamic Republic of Iran. However, following Tehran’s request and the involvement of Israel, the attack was halted, contingent upon rapidly finalizing a deal. The deal proposed by Trump outlines conditions such as the immediate and complete opening of the Hormuz Strait and the elimination of Iran’s nuclear threat.
Iran has maintained that its nuclear program serves peaceful purposes. The country has not yet officially responded to Trump’s statement. According to Mehr, an Iranian government-sponsored agency, Trump’s declarations were criticized as ‘new lies’ by unnamed Iranian military personnel.
The situation marks another unexpected change since the U.S. and Israel initiated a conflict with Iran in February.
Numerous Americans are questioning the value of the war, with an AP poll indicating that nearly two-thirds of citizens believe the conflict is not worthwhile. This information was reported by NPR’s Krishnadev Calamur in Washington and Frank Langfitt in Tel Aviv.
