President Donald Trump’s decision to ban several news outlets from the White House resulted in an unexpected situation on Monday. During a televised ribbon-cutting ceremony, his speech was barely audible after key networks decided to boycott the event.
Conservative network Newsmax aired footage showing Trump at a ceremony for a new White House helipad. However, without the routine presence of cameras and microphones from the White House TV press pool, many could not hear his remarks.
A Newsmax presenter commented, “There’s no microphone because the pool cameras aren’t there. So maybe this is one example of it backfiring slightly.”
Trump had announced in a Truth Social post that he was banning CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from the White House, accusing them of spreading “FAKE NEWS.”
On Monday, other major networks joined the protest by withdrawing from pool duty.
“There will be no replacement pool put in place,” said Bryan Boughton, the Fox News Washington bureau chief and chair of the TV pool, in a memo to the White House press corps, according to Politico.
