A report from a cryptocurrency analytics firm has revealed the financial outcomes for those who invested in the Trump memecoin. The findings show that most retail investors have suffered significant losses, while more experienced traders have fared better.
Nearly 1 million people who purchased the memecoin linked to President Trump have incurred losses by the end of June. The total losses amount to $3.81 billion, according to the firm Nansen.
This assessment comes shortly after Mr. Trump disclosed his own financial benefit, earning a $636 million payout from the same cryptocurrency investment. This was part of his substantial earnings of at least $2.2 billion from various ventures in 2025.
The advantage was consistently in Mr. Trump’s favor. He profited regardless of the memecoin’s market performance, collecting returns from every token transaction. He frequently encouraged his followers to trade the tokens, using his Truth Social platform for promotion.
Formerly skeptical of cryptocurrencies, Mr. Trump recognized an opportunity for profit in digital currencies during his 2024 presidential campaign. Together with his sons, he launched a cryptocurrency start-up called World Liberty Financial. This venture began selling a coin named $WLFI, which also experienced a sharp decline in value.
Just days before his inauguration, Mr. Trump introduced a second investment branded with his name—the $TRUMP memecoin, a novelty currency with limited practical use.
