Washington — President Trump announced that his administration is evaluating the possibility of dismissing Kimberly Guilfoyle from her role as the U.S. ambassador to Greece. This decision comes after allegations surfaced regarding Guilfoyle asking an associate to send $100,000 to cover her American Express bill, supposedly in return for assistance within the Trump administration before her Senate confirmation hearing.
President Trump, speaking to reporters en route to Ohio, acknowledged the situation by stating, “Well, we’re looking at it. We’re not happy.” Businessman Eric Deters revealed to CBS News that he firmly believed it was a “pay-to-play” scenario when Guilfoyle solicited funds. Deters shared screenshots of text messages with Guilfoyle, one of which appeared to show her request for a money transfer. Deters mentioned he didn’t provide the funds, stating, “Unfortunately for Kimberly Guilfoyle, at that time, at that moment in time, I didn’t have $100,000 to spare to give to Kimberly Guilfoyle, or I actually would have been a dumbass enough to do it.”
Guilfoyle’s attorney contested the validity of these text messages, as initially reported by The Wall Street Journal. Guilfoyle, who was nominated by Trump as the ambassador to Greece, is the former fiancée of Donald Trump Jr. Her confirmation hearing was conducted in July 2025, with her subsequent confirmation occurring in September of the same year.
Recently, Guilfoyle was prominently seen during Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s visit to Greece. President Trump and Ambassador Guilfoyle were photographed together at a reception celebrating Greek Independence Day in the East Room of the White House, along with other notable figures including John Catsimatidis, CEO of Gristedes, and his wife, Margo Catsimatidis. This story is still unfolding.
