Trevor Bauer faced another challenge on Wednesday afternoon as he seeks a return to Major League Baseball. The former Cy Young winner was involved in a serious car accident in Arizona. Bauer, aged 35, was driving his black McLaren on a Phoenix street when the collision occurred.
Bauer, who hasn’t played in the MLB since the 2021 season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, was not at fault for the crash according to reports from TMZ. The posted speed limit was 45 mph, and emergency responders confirmed that none of the parties involved required hospitalization. Remarkably, Bauer walked away without any injuries.
This incident isn’t Bauer’s first unfortunate encounter involving a McLaren. In 2019, a semi-truck tire damage his parked 2016 McLaren 650S.
Once a top player in baseball after winning a Cy Young Award and securing a three-year, $102 million contract with the Dodgers, Bauer’s career faced turmoil in 2021. Allegations of sexual assault from accuser Lindsey Hill led to media scrutiny. Although no criminal charges were filed and Bauer maintained his innocence, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred issued a 324-game suspension. An arbitrator later reduced the suspension to 194 games.
Despite never facing criminal charges, Bauer’s toxic reputation among MLB teams left him pitching outside the major leagues. He currently plays for the Atlantic League’s Long Island Ducks, where he boasts a 4-1 record with a 2.43 ERA. Ironically, his presence in Arizona was for rehabilitation related to back spasms.
Bauer has actively campaigned for another chance in MLB, expressing willingness to play for the league minimum salary. While controversy affected his career, Bauer’s determination to make a comeback remains unshaken. He walked away from the car accident unharmed and continues to pursue his path back to the major league.
