On Friday evening, a trespasser attempted to enter the cliffside home of former Vice President Kamala Harris in Malibu. The incident was confirmed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Harris’ spokesperson.
Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, were not present during the incident. Eduard Negrón, the spokesperson, did not disclose their location at the time.
“Last night, security personnel stopped an individual who illegally entered Vice President Harris and Second Gentleman Emhoff’s property before the individual reached the home,” Negrón stated. “They are grateful to the security and law enforcement personnel who responded swiftly.”
The on-site security team directly contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which oversees the Malibu area. Lt. Jason Duron, watch commander at the Malibu/Lost Hills sheriff’s station, detailed that a woman made it to Harris’ front door. Deputies arrived around 10:30 p.m., and the woman, who remains unidentified, agreed to leave voluntarily without arrest.
Lt. Duron announced that patrols of the property would increase as a precaution.
The security of Kamala Harris has been a topic of past scrutiny. Former vice presidents typically receive six months of Secret Service protection after leaving office. However, President Joe Biden extended Harris’ coverage. This extension was subsequently revoked by President Trump in August 2025, causing Los Angeles and California law enforcement agencies to rapidly mobilize protective measures for Harris.
Due to criticism over resource allocation, the Los Angeles Police Department quickly ceased its involvement with Harris’ security. The current status of California Highway Patrol’s involvement is unclear, as is whether the security personnel who contacted the Sheriff’s Department were private guards.
