Tom Holland Names His Successor for Spider-Man Role

Fans have expressed their opinions after Tom Holland revealed who he envisions as the next Spider-Man. Holland, who will reprise his role in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ shared his choice with Esquire.

Holland, aged 30, mentioned, ‘In the way that Robert Downey was such a mentor for me in my first three movies, I would love to be that person for whoever is next.’ Downey starred as Iron Man alongside Holland in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Holland revealed his pick to succeed him, saying, ‘Owen Cooper would be awesome.’ Cooper, 16, has gained recognition for his performance in Netflix’s ‘Adolescence.’

Cooper has earned accolades, winning Best Supporting Actor at the Critics Choice Awards, Golden Globes, British Academy Television Awards, and Emmys for his role in a limited series.

Fans quickly took to social media to share their reactions. One fan commented, ‘Owen Cooper was phenomenal in Adolescence. He absolutely has the acting chops for Peter Parker.’

Another fan remarked, ‘If Marvel actually pulls the trigger on this, the casting would be absolutely elite.’

However, not everyone is ready to see Holland leave the role he has held since ‘Captain America: Civil War’ in 2016. One fan expressed, ‘Tom Holland out here doing God’s work by naming his successor Owen Cooper as the next Spider-Man? I see the vision but I’m still not ready to say goodbye to Tom’s Peter Parker.’

Holland has previously talked about the franchise’s future during an interview with Empire. He stated, ‘For whoever’s next, whether that is a Miles Morales or a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman or something like that, I would love to be a part of setting up the next chapter.’

He added, ‘Whatever that looks like, I don’t know. But if I could do what Downey did for me, then I would be so content swinging off into the sunset.’

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ premieres on July 31.
